If our church members fall into the habit of frequenting the theatre, we shall soon have them going much further in the direction of vice, and they will lose all relish for the ways of God.
Dear Christian: Compare the amount of time you spend watching secular material on television, movies, video, with the amount of time you spend reading and meditating upon the Bible.
"A little leaven leavens the whole lump." (Galatians 5:9) That 'leaven' might be an analogy to the influence of secular entertainment in the life of a Christian. While it seems harmless, beware, its power to influence is unsuspected, but it will eventually change what should not be influenced and conform the believer into the image of the world system. (Romans 12:2)
One of your best articles ever. Deep gratitude Jeff. I know a well known Baptist preacher who names the movie "Tombstone" ( with Kurt Russell ) as one of his favorites. The movie is R rated and filled with profanity, sexuality, and cruel violence. Where is this preacher leading his flock?
I completely agree! I remember when we were in the A/G a long time ago, they would pick a movie and rework it. And then Pastor Tommy would do his sermon on it. I always thought, well, that’s odd. I pretty much questioned everything they did. Thank the Lord He took us out of that ☺️
Good admonishment Jeff. Love the Spurgeon quote too.
Psalm 101:2….I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless.” I often hear this scripture in my head when in doubt.
Although they know God’s just sentence—that those who practice such things deserve to die they not only do them but even applaud others who practice them.
You´re so spot on in this, and yet our sinful nature relishes all kind of entertainment. And in reading some of the comments as well; this really makes me think even more about what we look at, however inoccent, it may seem in our eyes. We all really need to think about what we read, look at and listen to, a lot more than we do. Thanks for yet another excellent article. It really gave me a lot of things to think about.
AMEN!!!
As you well know, I have been saying this very thing for years (and years)
Great piece.

Is that scary? Well, correction is available.

And language. Don’t forget the language.
