Pope Francis on Wednesday (August 28) strongly decried the treatment of migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea to enter Europe, saying it was a "grave sin" not to offer aid to migrant vessels. "There are those who work systematically and with every means to reject migrants," the pontiff said during his weekly general audience in St. Peter's Square. "And this, when done with conscience and responsibility, is a grave sin," he said.
It's easy for Pope Francis to make sweeping moral pronouncements when he's safely behind the walls of the Vatican—a literal fortress with some of the strictest immigration controls in the world. The hypocrisy is glaring. If the Pope truly believes it's a "grave sin" to reject illegal immigrants, why doesn't he lead by example and throw open the gates of his own sovereign nation? The Vatican could accommodate plenty of people, yet it remains tightly secured while he lectures other nations about their policies.
The rest of the world has stopped looking at that man for spiritual guidance as well as any other advice or guidance…
Do as I say, not as I do….
Good thing I don’t listen to what the “Pope” says, but unfortunately there are millions of people who do. Undoubtedly statements like this are meant to influence his followers to vote against political candidates who want to curb illegal immigration.
