Meet the new Pope, another compromised figurehead crowned with pomp and splendor in the gilded halls of Rome. Pope Leo XIV—formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost—has now stepped into the shoes of his predecessor, carrying on the long and predictable tradition of positioning himself as the so-called Vicar of Christ. As if that blasphemous assertion weren’t enough, the plot thickens.

Born in Chicago—the city synonymous with corruption and moral decline—Prevost’s ascent to the papacy is as bewildering as it is demoralizing. A man whose early life was marked not by rigorous defense of the gospel but by cozy gatherings of Romish priests in his family’s home, where Catholic piety intermingled with vague social activism.

It’s almost poetic that a man from a city so steeped in political rot would find himself in a role as spiritually compromised as this. In fact, it’s not really a stretch to say that The Vatican is the spiritual counterpart of Chicago—corruption, backroom deals, and deadly spiritual poison.

Prevost’s missionary days in Peru were marked by an almost romantic embrace of liberation theology—a pseudo-spiritual gloss on Marxist ideology. He wasn’t known for preaching the gospel or declaring God’s word unambiguously, but rather for building a reputation as a genial, soft-spoken “shepherd” to the marginalized.
