Brent Leatherwood - ERLC

Brent Leatherwood is suddenly concerned about morality.

This is the same Brent Leatherwood who heads up the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission—a bureaucratic black hole of Southern Baptist tithe dollars that’s spent the better part of a decade virtue-signaling its way into political irrelevance. He is now, in the twilight of his credibility, scrambling for a shred of moral authority.

And why?

Because the few remaining conservative Southern Baptists are coming with pitchforks and torches, demanding that the ERLC be defunded. Even Jack Graham is calling for his ousting, so it’s safe to say Leatherwood’s days of coasting on sanctimony are numbered.

But what is Leatherwood’s response to all this? Not repentance. Not reflection. But a full-blown PR hail Mary, conveniently wrapped in righteous indignation. Not only is he calling for the defunding of Planned Parenthood, but he’s also made it his mission in the last 24 hours to seek a total ban on pornography.

And while, yes, these are righteous goals worthy of applause, the timing reeks of desperation, not conviction. If morality were a water faucet, Leatherwood would only turn it on when his seat gets hot.

Where was this fire before? Where was this zeal when Pornhub was first exposed for monetizing child exploitation years ago? Where was this thunderous indignation in 2016 when Donald Trump’s name had ERLC staffers fainting into their soy lattes but the porn industry kept grinding out filth unchallenged?
