But you’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You’re gonna have to serve somebody,
It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you’re gonna have to serve somebody.
 —Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan's lyrics from his 1979 song "Gotta Serve Somebody" resonate through the ages, illustrating a spiritual truth that you can't escape making a choice about who or what you serve. The Bible reaffirms this existential reality—humans, being made in the image of God, have an innate predisposition to worship. Yet due to our sin nature, we often choose to direct this worship toward created things rather than the Creator, as described in Romans 1:18-32.

The depths to which this rebellion against God can plunge a society is disturbingly evident in the contemporary landscape. Sexual immorality is not just a sign of cultural decline—it's the manifestation of humanity being given over to its most depraved desires. This, according to biblical understanding, is the ultimate wrath of God being dispensed on a wayward world. It's a wholesale rebellion against God's order.

The comparison to the ancient worship of the pagan goddess Ishtar is strikingly apt. In the ancient civilizations of Babylonia and Assyria over four millennia ago, Ishtar was venerated with elaborate rituals and ceremonies that were anything but innocent. Temples dedicated to her were often centers for sacred prostitution, where priestesses would engage in sexual acts as a form of worship, falsely believing that their actions would stimulate fertility for their lands and families. Festivals honoring Ishtar would involve not only sexual rites but also animal sacrifices and the singing of hymns that celebrated her licentious mythologies.

Far from being a marginal aspect of society, this deity was central to the Babylonian and Assyrian cultures, and her worship was institutionalized as a form of public piety. This is the epitome of exchanging the truth of God for a lie, worshiping the creature rather than the Creator.

Fast forward to today, and this conceptual worship of the goddess of sex is far from archaic—it's a cornerstone in the ideology of leftist political and social groups. The Democrat party, the political expression of this secular religion, prioritizes unrestricted sexual freedom as a sacrosanct right. Progressive movements, feminist ideologies, and LGBTQ advocates stand behind policies that are not only at odds with but diametrically opposed to the created order—abortion, "gay marriage," and "transgender" rights to name a few.

This is no defense of the Republican party, as in recent years, it has fast-tracked its trajectory in a similar, albeit slightly lesser manner. But claiming to be a Christian while aligning oneself with the Democrat party and its platform becomes an insurmountable contradiction, as biblical Christianity fundamentally opposes the policies and moral perspectives advocated by Democrats. For example, when Democrats champion abortion under the guise of "women's health," they are not advocating for health or freedom, but for a worldview that divorces sexual activity from responsibility—even if it costs the lives of the unborn.
