How The Gospel Coalition is Behind Campus Crusade's Normalizing of Homosexuality
The Gospel Coalition (TGC) is Evangelicalism's primary outlet for progressive thought, ideas, and calls to action with a focus on social justice, feminism, and homosexuality. The Gospel Coalition has been a leader in the Evangelical movement to remove the stigma of LGBTQ identity, normalize same-sex attraction, and promote LGBTQ inclusion in churches. Primarily through its promotion of a new concept, "gay celibacy," and its primary advocates like Sam Allberry, same-sex-attracted "Christians" are now being elevated to an unprecedented status in Evangelical churches.
Yet, while The Gospel Coalition has an appeal to established New Calvinist churches, its audience is rather limited in its reach, particularly among high-school and young college-aged students.
Enter Cru.
Cru, formerly Campus Crusade for Christ, is a worldwide mission organization with a focus on students. The organization has branches around the world and on many high school and college campuses but also holds conferences that advance the objective of the organization. And that objective is identical to The Gospel Coalition's.
Within Cru, there are at least two well-known popular speakers and authors who inform and train other Cru leaders as well as speak regularly at events and conferences. The first one, Matt Mikalatos, is a Cru leader out of Portland Oregon who refers to himself as a "male feminist," and teaches that homosexuals don't need to repent of homosexuality when they come to Christ.
The other is Rachel Gilson. Gilson is not only a highly sought-after Cru speaker and leader, but she is also a contributor for The Gospel Coalition. Gilson teaches that homosexuals who are married -- and come to Christ after they are married -- can stay married because "God hates divorce."
Both Gilson and Mikalatos teach that homosexual attraction -- the desire for men to sodomize one another -- is not in and of itself sinful.
But the ties between The Gospel Coalition and Cru are much deeper than just a couple of notable speakers who teach this twisted perversion of God's grace -- the upper management of both organizations are closely linked. The two are, in fact, officially partnered.
Michael Sylvester is a top leader in Cru and is the Executive Director of Cru's Urban Project International which "provides a global and domestic engagement regarding matters of race, power, culture, and ethnicity." He is also the founder and CEO of The Lenses Group which "provides training and development in the areas of cultural proficiency and adaptability for Cru and those outside, both organizations in the sacred and public square." He has been on Cru staff for 26 years, according to his bio.
Urban Project International is the undeniable link between Cru and The Gospel Coalition. When we look at Urban's resource partners at this link, you will see several notable TGC figureheads such as D.A. Horton, Trillia Newbell of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) and Thabiti Anyabwile, a protege of Mark Dever and 9Marks -- all TGC contributors.
It's amazing how closely connected all of these pro-homosexual organizations are when you examine them. So many of them are tied directly back to subversive Evangelical figureheads such as D.A. Carson, Tim Keller, and Russell Moore. The propaganda to normalize homosexuality, same-sex attraction and other various subversive ideologies such as feminism and social justice don't just pop up all of a sudden from a new and enlightened biblical understanding. No, just like the Bible says, they creep in unawares (Jude 1:4) and cause destruction from the inside.
