I understand the impulse. I really do. A culture takes something God created, hijacks it, weaponizes it against biblical truth, and Christians naturally want to take it back. On paper, that sounds honorable and bold. It sounds like a counteroffensive.
But sometimes what looks like reclaiming that symbol is actually surrendering ground to it.
That was my immediate reaction when I saw The Upper Room Church of God in Christ, led by Patrick Wooden, promoting a “Jesus Pride” event using the visual language that has become synonymous with the LGBTQ movement.
Some will argue that the rainbow belongs to God. Biblically speaking, that’s true. The rainbow was God’s covenant sign long before activists ever put it on a flag. The problem is that symbols do not exist in a vacuum.
